How to Arrange an Au Pair

This is how we work and what we expect from you, to make a successful arrangement.

Registration
To register, fill in the application form on the website. We will then send you a character reference form to be filled in by your church leader and a medical release form for you to fill in. You will then need to return these along with a recent family photograph and a non-refundable deposit of £30. We will then look for a suitable candidate. The speed at which we can work depends on demand and your own particular needs. (We do not issue lists of names and addresses of au pairs.)

Arrangements
We phone you and discuss the au pair with you. If you respond positively we send you the details and let you make direct contact with the au pair, either by telephone, email or by letter. This must be done within 48 hours, to be fair to other families who may be waiting. After this the au pair may be offered to another family.

You set a date for the au pair to arrive and a finishing date (which may change if the au pair decides to stay longer). You need to explain to the au pair exactly what duties you will expect them to perform. You will need to pay £60 per week as a minimum. It is expected that the au pair should have Sunday and one other day off each week. The hours they actually work are up to you to negotiate. Everyone's needs are different and individual. As a guide, somewhere in the region of 30 hours would be appropriate, but for many families it is a very informal arrangement. The au pair will pay travelling costs from their country and also pay for any language courses they may wish to attend (unless you choose to make a contribution).

It is important at this stage that you move quickly, though post can sometimes be frustratingly slow. Let us know IMMEDIATELY of a positive or negative response. This enables us to be more efficient with other families and not to have two families chasing one au pair.

You should write to the au pair a formal letter of invitation clarifying how many hours of work is expected, how much pocket money will be given, a time table of work hours and duties, as well as the date and length of time the au pair can stay.

When the arrangement is agreed by both parties we will invoice you.

Payment
Payment must be made as soon as the invoice has been received and prior to the starting date of the au pair. When a time arrangement has been secured, full payment for that arrangement is expected before the au pair arrives and not on a monthly basis.

We are on the end of the phone from 9:00-17:00 between Monday and Friday. However, we are prepared to discuss any arrangements during the evenings and weekends if it is an emergency.
