How to Become an Au Pair
Application
When you submit your application form it will be sent to us by email.
We will then send a Character reference, Child-care reference and a Medical
form for you to fill in. Please return these along with 2 photographs.
We will find a christian 'host' family for you. We do not send out lists
of families as we work at matching your requirements with a particular family's
needs. We will write to you to tell you we have received your forms. You will then
get a phone call or email from a 'host' family who will tell you about themselves.
You must be able to speak English well enough to at least
have a conversation. If you are unsure, you must speak to us on the telephone.
This is important for au pairs from Eastern Europe, where English may not have
been learned as a second language in school.
The family who telephone you will be the selected family we think best suited to
you. However, if you are not happy about this arrangement, you will need to let
us know immediately. If necessary, they will write you a formal invitation letter,
which should be shown at Passport Control. You need to wait for this letter before
you make your transport arrangements, if you are from Eastern Europe.
Insurance
You do not need a medical insurance for Britain, as we have an excellent
National Health system where you will automatically receive any hospital or doctor
treatment if required. However, you will need to register with a local doctor on
arrival. Sometimes a small fee will need to be paid to register. You will pay for
any medicines prescribed.
Most dentists in Britain do not offer treatment under the National Health system.
Therefore it is important to have a thorough check from your own dentist before
arriving. All dental treatment must be paid for.
If you are from Turkey, you may have to register at a local police station on
arrival in Britain. This will cost a little money, so be prepared!
